End Station

THE END STATION:

  • Two separate translation tables: to support the detector and the diffractometer (and the beam-conditioning elements). Both tables are projects developed in house by the Engineering Division.
  • Beam conditioning elements: These are the elements right before the sample, they consist of the 12-foil attenuators, x-ray position monitors, slits, slow and fast shutter, kapton window.
  • Diffractometer: Where the sample is rotated for data collection. The system includes a high accuracy omega axis (and a mini-kappa) and an on-axis viewing system.
  • Automatic Sample Changer: The 6-axis robotic arm is used to manipulate both cryosamples and room-temperature crystallization plates. The Dewar is able to store 90 cryosamples.
  • Detector. The main data collection detector is capable of recording 12 images per second.

Translation tables (in-house projects)

  • Diffractometer table: holds the diffractometer and the beam conditioning elements. The table is based in a new design done in house based in flexures to increase stiffness and reliability. Allowed movements are vertical, transversal, yaw and pitch.
StatusThe table is installed and working properly.

  • Detector table: holds the detector. It is based in the same concept as the diffractometer table. Allowed movements of the detector are vertical, pitch, and longitudinal.
Status: The table is installed and working properly.

Diffractometer: MD2M (BRUKER)

Status: Installed.

  • On-axis viewing system
  • 2 μm sphere of confusion
  • mini-kappa
  • XYZ movable beam stop (in-house design)

Beam-conditioning Elements

Status: Almost all elements have been installed.

  • Position monitors: both 4-quadrant CVD diamond (DECTRIS)
  • 12-foil attenuators (ESRF type)
  • Fast shutter (FPS400 CEDRAT)
  • Slits (JJ-Xray ESRF type)

Automatic Sample Changer: CATS (IRELEC)

Status: Successfully installed and fully operating for SPINE pins. Crystallization plates being integrated.

  • Robotic arm to mount/unmount SPINE pins
  • The liquid N2 Dewar is able to store 90 samples
  • Ability to scan Greiner, MRC and Fluidigm crystallization plates
  • Barcode reading

Fluorescence detector:  XFlash Detector 410-SA (BRUKER)

Status: Installed and integrated.

  •  To allow anomalous scattering experiments.

Detector: PILATUS 6M (DECTRIS)

Status: PILATUS 6M (DECTRIS) (http://dectris.com/sites/pilatus6m.html). Successfully installed, and operating. Now being integrated in the beamline control system

  • 424x435 mm2 active area, 6Mpixels
  • 1 Million counts dynamic range (20 bits)
  • Delivery May 2011.
  • Virtually noise free

Cryostream: 700 series (Oxford Cryosystems)

Status: Installed and working properly.

  • 100K to 400K operation.
  • 0.1 K stability.
