250 years of science and arts

The Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona (RACAB) – chaired by Ramon Pascual - celebrates this year its 250th anniversary.


The Nobel Prize of Physics Jack Steinberger, Professor William F. Van Altena from Yale University and Jordi Savall, composer, musician and professor, are some of the participants of the activities' program for celebrating 250 years of the RACAB.

The opening ceremony of this event took place last May 6th at the Saló de Cent of the Barcelona town hall, where the mayor, Xavier Trias, presented the RACAB a scientific merit award.

On May 9th the European Physical Society (EPS) declared the Fabra Observatory - managed by the RACAB- as the first EPS Historic Site in Spain.

The Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona (RACAB) – chaired by Ramon Pascual, chair of the Executive Commission of the ALBA Synchrotron – is an association of professionals from the fields of science and arts aimed at promoting and spreading science and arts to society. It was created in 1764 and nowadays is composed by a maximum of 75 members from different areas: Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry, Earth sciences, Biology, Technology and Arts.
