History

History:

  • 1990: First attempt to obtain funding for an accelerator or light source in Spain.
  • 1994: Staff is hired to prepare the conceptual design report of a 2.5 GeV light source.
  • 1997: Conceptual design report is finished.
  • 2002: Approval of the project by the Spanish and the Catalan Governments.
  • 2003: Appointement of the General Director (Joan Bordas)
  • 2003: Announcement of the positions for the heads of the 5 divisions.
  • 2003: 1st user meeting at Menorca.
  • 2004: 2nd user meeting in Malaga.
  • 2004: Redesign of the storage ring.
  • 2004: Geotechnical studies on the site.
  • 2005: Site conditioning.
  • 2006: Start building construction.
  • 2007: First electron pulses for ALBA.
  • 2008: Linac installation.
  • 2008: First electron beam at the Linac exit.
  • 2009: Booster and Storage ring installation.
  • 2009: 80 kW in Dampy Cavity.
  • 2010: First operational test of the Booster.
  • 2010: Inauguration.
  • March 2011: Electron beam in the Storage Ring.
  • 23rd November 2011. First friendly user (external user helping in the Commissioning) at Boreas beamline
  • 17th January 2012. First call for proposal deadline for official experiments.
  • 8th May 2012. First official user at BOREAS beamline.
  • 27th June 2012. First official user at MSPD beamline.
  • 10th July 2012. First official user at NCD beamline.
  • 28th July 2012. First official user at XALOC beamline.
  • 17th October 2012. First official user at CIRCE beamline.
  • Mid December 2012. First publication is reported to User Office with data taken at ALBA MSPD Beamline: Structural Phase Transitions on AgCuS Stromeyerite Mineral under Compression. D. Santamaria-Perez, A. Morales-Garcia, D. Martinez-Garcia, B. Garcia-Domene, C. Múhle, and M.Jansen. Inorganic Chemistry 52, 355-361 (2013).
  • 12th February 2013. First official user at MISTRAL beamline.
  • 1st March 2013. First official user at CLAESS beamline.
